Privacy Policy
Overview
Group Radar ("we", "our", or "us") is a mobile application for coordinating and tracking group cycling rides. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
We collect only what is necessary to provide the service. We do not sell your data.
Information we collect
Account information
If you create an account, we store your email address and display name. This is used to identify you as a ride organizer and to send account-related emails (email verification, password reset).
Location data
When you participate in an active ride, we collect your GPS location and share it with other participants of the same ride. Location sharing is active only during a live ride. We request background location permission so your position continues to update when the app is not in the foreground. Location data is not stored permanently — only the most recent position per participant is kept and it is deleted when the ride ends.
Nickname
Participants choose a nickname when joining a ride. This nickname is visible to other participants of the same ride.
Device identifier
We generate an anonymous device identifier to allow guest participants (without an account) to manage their ride participation. This identifier is stored on your device and is not linked to any personal information.
Ride data
Rides you create (title, description, location, date, access code) are stored in our database. Rides and their associated data are retained until deleted.
How we use your information
- To display your location on the live map to other participants of your ride
- To send account-related emails (verification, password reset)
- To identify you as the organizer of rides you create
- To allow guest participants to join and leave rides without an account
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the app.
Who can see your location
Your location is only visible to other participants of the same active ride. It is never visible to the general public, to other rides, or to us outside of the technical operation of the service.
Location sharing stops as soon as you leave a ride or the ride ends.
Third-party services
Group Radar is built on Supabase (database and authentication) hosted in the EU. Your data is stored on Supabase infrastructure. You can read Supabase's privacy policy at supabase.com/privacy.
The map search feature uses Nominatim, a geocoding service operated by the OpenStreetMap Foundation. Search queries are sent to Nominatim's servers. No personal data is included in these requests. See osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy.
Data retention
Location data (checkins) is associated with active rides and is no longer actively updated once a ride ends. Ride data and account information are retained until you request deletion.
Your rights
You can:
- Update your display name at any time in the Settings tab
- Leave a ride at any time, which removes you from the live map immediately
- Request deletion of your account and all associated data by emailing us
Children
Group Radar is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects when it was last updated. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
